Since 2000 Norman Scrivener has been a consultant in philatelic and numismatic properties for Doyle and organizes the semiannual auctions of Coins, Bank Notes and Postage Stamps. He oversaw the landmark sale of the Samuel Mills Damon Collection, which included six Hawaii Silver Dollars of 1883 graded as Finest Known, along with many other rarities.
Born and educated in England, Norman Scrivener began his philatelic career in 1962 with the prestigious London stamp auction house of H.R. Harmer Ltd. In 1964 he transferred to their New York offices under the tutelage of William L. Roscher. After eight years he joined the firm of Stanley Gibbons International where he established a New York branch and developed an ongoing auction and retail department. In 1972 he joined the Greg Manning Company in South Orange, New Jersey, helping to establish their entry into the stamp auction arena. In 1976 he established his own company, Scrivener’s Stamps, Coins & Collectibles, which he expanded to include rare coins, autographs, early sports cards and other memorabilia.
Over the years, Norman has developed a strong relationship with his peers and built contacts with a number of Trust and Estate professionals in the tristate area. He is a New York City licensed and bonded auctioneer, member of the American Stamp Dealers Association and a member of the American Numismatic Association.
